Declaración de motivos para hacerme testigo de Darwin

Desde hace tiempo que mi convicción anterior, ser ateo, me tiene insatisfecho. En primer lugar es aceptar que creo en algo, que tengo una creencia firme como todos debemos tenerla, y es aquí donde inician mis dudas, ¿por qué debo tenerla?

También es hacer referencia a algo de lo que no tengo idea, porque al discutir la existencia de un dios es discutir la creencia de una idea sobre el origen del mundo, y sobre esto no deberíamos discutir pues no entendemos nada. En ese sentido me convence más el agnosticismo.

Recientemente le leí a John Gray sobre ateísmo:

Atheism, the last consequence of Christianity
Unbelief is a move in a game whose rules are set by believers. To deny the existence of God is to accept the categories of monotheism. As these categories fall into disuse, unbelief becomes uninteresting, and soon it is meaningless. Atheists say they want a secular world, but a world defined by the absence of the Christians’ god is still a Christian world. Secularism is like chastity, a condition defined by what it denies. If atheism has a future, it can only be in a Christian revival; but in fact Christianity and atheism are declining together.
Atheism is a late bloom of a Christian passion for truth. No pagan is readty to sacrifice the pleasure of life for the sake of mere truth. It is artful illusion, not unadorned reality, that they prize. Among the Greeks, the goal of philosophy was happiness or salvation, not truth. The worship of truth is a Christian cult.
The old pagans were right to shudder at the uncouth earnestness of the early Christians. None of the mystery religions in which the ancient world abounded claimed what Christians claimed – that all other faiths were in error. For that very reason, none of their followers could ever become an atheist. When Christians insisted that they alone possessed the truth they condemned the lush profusion of the pagan world with a damming finality.
In a world of many gods, unbelief can never be total, It can only be rejection of one god and acceptance of another, or else – as in Epicurus and his followers – the conviction that the gods do not matter since they have long since ceased to bother about human affairs.
Christianity struck at the root of pagan tolerance of illusion. In claiming that there in only one true faith, it gave truth a supreme value it had not had before. It also made disbelief in the divine possible for the first time. The long-delayed consequence of Christian faith was an idolatry of truth that found its most complete expression in atheism. If we live in a world without gods, we have Christianity to thank for it.

El ateísmo continúa la idolatría del monoteísmo por la verdad, y eso es lo que debemos cuestionar, no podemos tener esa fijación si aceptamos la complejidad del universo y lo limitado, lo local y simbólico de nuestro entendimiento. No creo en volver al politeísmo, pero sí en aceptar nuestras limitaciones y renunciar a la verdad y en ese sentido ser como en nuestra etapa pre cristiana.

¿Cómo expresar una creencia sin mostrar la fijación por la verdad a la que nos motiva el monoteísmo? ¿Cómo decir que en realidad no es tan importante, que no deberíamos obsesionarnos con la historia o la verdad, sino más bien vivir el momento, el presente? ¿Cómo expresar algo de lo que dijo Coldcut?

Una forma de hacerlo es con ironía, creer sin creérselo, ser testigo de Darwin. Ser testigo es expresar una gran creencia, pero ¿en Darwin? Sí, si es lo único que sabemos de seguro. La teoría de la evolución que propuso no deja nada trascendente en qué creer, solo en pequeños cambios azarosos y en selección natural, nada de destino ni verdades únicas. Así de grande es la ironía: los testigos de Jeovhá se hacen llamar así por el siguiente pasaje bíblico (Isaías 43:10, 11)

Ustedes son mis testigos, aún mi siervo a quien he escogido, para que sepan y tengan fe en mí y para que entiendan que yo soy el mismo. Antes de mí no fue formado Dios alguno, y después de mí continuó sin que lo hubiera. Yo… yo soy Jehová [יהוה] y fuera de mí no hay salvador.

Del más puro monoteísmo al más puro no-teísmo, los testigos de Darwin parecen declarar

QUE, habiendo sido comprados con la sangre preciosa de homínidos y primates, justificados y engendrados por homo-habilis y llamados a su reino, sin vacilación declaramos nuestra completa lealtad y devoción a Darwin y su reino; que somos siervos de Darwin comisionados [para] hacer una obra en su nombre y en obediencia a su mandamiento, entregar el testimonio de la Evolución, y dar a conocer a la gente que Darwin es el verdadero y Omnipotente Dios; por lo tanto gozosamente aceptamos el nombre que la boca de todos ha pronunciado, y deseamos ser conocidos como y llamados por el nombre, de Testigos de Darwin.
